Launching process for standard TLDs
The figure below depicts the sequence for launching a New gTLD. A standard type registry is required to offer a priority registration period for trademark holders. This is known as the “Sunrise” period. During the Sunrise period, a registry will need to check the validity of the trademarks being submitted in conjunction with a domain name. The Sunrise period is followed by a open registration period where any user can register premium domain names on a first come first serve basis. This is then followed by the official launch or “Go Live” period when the TLD is open for regular operations.
