New gTLD Strings

Planning for the new top-level domain? Looking for a string that’s going to make you rich beyond the dreams of avarice? …

Well, here is a list of 310 TLD strings, some old, some new, compiled from various sources on the Internet that you may want to keep in mind. It is likely that several of these gTLD strings will end up in contention, public disapproval, or violation of the string requirements.

Here are some basic rules to follow when applying for a New gTLD:

  1. String must be between 3 and 63 characters
  2. IDN Strings must be 2 or more characters1
  3. Strings must pass the ICANN Similarity Assessment Test
  4. Strings cannot infringe on Trademarks
  5. Geographical TLDs will need governing body support


2000, 2003 Top-level Domain Strings

This of top level domain string includes both generic top-level domains and sponsored top-level domains. This list was compiled from ICANN gTLD and sTLD applications made between 2000 until 2003.

Of the above strings, make sure you don’t apply for any of the 21 delegated gTLDs. ICANN is not likely to give you a full refund.

Then there are the 4 reserved top level DNS names, as defined by RFC 2606. Make sure not to apply for these.

2008 – 2010 Publicly Announced New gTLD strings

The following 74 gTLDs strings are believed to have supporters that intend to apply for these strings during the first New gTLD round opening up later this year, or next. You should take note that some of these gTLD strings already have two or more applicants. For example berlin, eco, and music are already in contention.

Here are some possible TLD strings that may be worth applying for, purely from an SEO standpoint. These 100 strings are the most popular English2 words used on websites.

Duplicate strings that have appeared other sections have not been removed, i.e. net or info, from this list of 100 popular website English words.
