gTLD String Stats
Interlink K.K. has been kind enough to share the top 100 World Domain Cup results taken this month. These New gTLD strings are what people, worldwide, have chosen as their favoriate TLD for the contest. Some of these results probably come as no surprise, but there are a couple of strings that may raise question marks over your head.
Orz and Moe
Both orz and moe are Japanese cultural expressions. Orz is a Japanese emoticon representing a kneeling or bowing person, with the “o” being the head, the “r” being the arms and part of the body, and the “z” being
part of the body and the legs.
Moe is another Japanese techno-anime cultural word, or actually slang meaning a strong interest in a particular type of style of character in video games, anime or manga. For example meganekko-moe, or
“glasses-girl moe”, describes a person attracted to fictional characters with eye-glasses.

From these entries, there’s definitely a Japanese voice here. Coming from North America, I would have expected slightly different results. I think however, there are some good data to be found here. With the exceptions of orz, moe, and most likely www, all of these gTLD strings are viable new gTLD contenders. The interesting part about this data is that it suggests what Japanese consumers want in a TLD string.
